RaRa for Haiti
The mission of this event is to
raise funds for vital recovery efforts in post-earthquake Haiti
& to raise awareness about Haiti: the culture and history that tie Haiti so deeply to New Orleans, as well as the current situation.
The RaRa for Haiti will bring together New Orleanians & Haitians in a tradition that both cultures use to grieve loss, release pain, and celebrate life - a street parade, or celebration, with music and dance. Known in New Orleans as a second line and in Haiti as a rara, the traditions are kin and both very much still alive and part of their respective cultures.
